How does k-ID verify my age?

k-ID uses a privacy-first, compliance-driven approach to determine a user’s age. We don’t rely on a single method but instead use a combination of techniques that meet industry standards and comply with local and international laws. This layered approach helps us verify age more accurately while protecting your privacy and supporting global requirements for child safety and data protection.

Here’s how we verify age:

  1. Parental Consent and/or Age Verification – For digital youths, we verify the age through a parent or legal guardian’s approval, using secure authentication methods such as email verification, payment confirmation (e.g., credit card / debit card) or government-approved consent mechanisms (e.g., National IDs).
  2. Age Estimation – In some cases, we may use estimation technology, which analyzes specific signals associated with a user’s face (combined with liveliness checks) to make an educated guess about a user’s age without storing personal data.
  3. Trusted Third-Party Data Sources – We integrate with reliable, privacy-compliant data sources that can confirm a user’s age based on existing, verified records.
  4. Platform-Specific Verification – If a user has already verified their age on a trusted partner platform, k-ID can work with that service to securely confirm their age without requiring additional information

Our verification methods align with international regulations like COPPA (U.S.), GDPR (Europe), the UK’s Age-Appropriate Design Code, and other global minor safety and privacy laws. We prioritize minimizing data collection and ensuring that any age verification process is secure, private, and user-friendly.
